I know what you mean. A good desk chair is so important. I like the color though... mine is just dull old black.
It does look broken... My daughter had a futon in her dorm room that had a problem with a drill hole for a screw so it was broken from the start. Before she finally found a drill and fixed it, she had all kinds of wire and duct tape on it to hold it together... what a mess.
You're right: dining chairs are miserable. Couches are too low. I'm on a stool and it's awful. We better get ourselves a good chair!
